Meet Tomorrow’s Brightest Stars!

Each year, San Francisco Federal Credit Union sponsors a Youth Scholarship Program to assist student members who plan to attend college or vocational school after graduating high school. Since we began this program in 2009, the Credit Union has awarded nearly $190,000 to help our young members achieve higher education. This year, we had over 50 extremely talented student members apply for one of three $2,500 scholarships. Each submission was reviewed for a combination of academic record, acknowledgment of honors, participation in school, community activities, and the student's goals and aspirations.

In 2020 we were unable to honor our scholarship winners in person due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year we were thrilled to host our usual celebratory event once again for the award recipients and their families. Each scholarship winner received a check for $2,500, a certificate of honor, and a $50 Amazon gift card. Three students from San Mateo and San Francisco counties were selected, representing the areas we serve.

Cerina Pang (left) of San Francisco is a graduate of Phillip and Sala Burton Academic High School. In the fall she will attend Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins University, where she plans to major in neuroscience and public health. Cerina’s goal is to become a neurosurgeon and work toward alleviating health disparities in our society.

Jyairrah Martin (right) of San Francisco attended Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. Come fall she will begin her studies in comparative human development at the University of Chicago. Her big picture goals are to be an educator, activist, writer and performer. She hopes to one day start her own arts school, where more brown and black students will be represented.

Noah Camerino (center) of Redwood City is a graduate of Belmont’s Carlmont High School. He will soon be off to University of California, Davis, where he will major in computer science. Noah hopes to work as a software engineer. He wants to improve lives through technology, potentially creating a non-profit organization to serve this goal.

We are proud and fortunate to have these exceptional students as youth members of San Francisco Federal Credit Union. I am glad we can help lessen the financial pressure that comes with pursuing a higher education, and I have no doubt they will have a successful future.

Thank you to all our young members who submitted applications. We wish you all the best with your transition as you pursue your higher education goals.
