Meet Tomorrow’s Future Leaders!
San Francisco Federal Credit Union is committed to helping youth advance their education. Each year, we sponsor a Youth Scholarship Program to assist young members who plan to attend college or vocational school after graduating high school. Since we began this program in 2000, the credit union has awarded over $170,000 to help our young members achieve higher education. As always, this year’s crop of applicants are thoughtful, hard-working and intent on making positive changes in the world. Applications were evaluated on academic achievements and honors, community contributions, goals and aspirations, and other qualifying factors.

I am happy to announce the recipients of the 2022 Youth Scholarship awards. Each winner received a check for $2,500, a certificate of honor and a $50 Amazon gift card. Four students were selected this year, representing the counties we serve, San Mateo and San Francisco.

Savana Green, a graduate of Westmoor High School, will major in Biology at Texas Southern University. Her plan is to become an ER physician because she thinks she will like the fast pace and wants to help people have a healthy life.

Carlos Huang graduated from Balboa High School. He will major in Computer Science at University of California at Davis. Carlos hopes that one day he can create a social media app for users to spread awareness on systematic and social issues in our  society, envisioning “a future with a more conscious and alert society.”

Alexander Kasolas, a graduate of International High School, will be attending University of California at Berkeley, where he will major in Mechanical Engineering. He wants to ultimately work in the aerospace industry and determine what type of resources are inside asteroids and celestial bodies, with the ultimate goal to “save our environment and provide a more sustainable future for us all.”

Elias Myers is a graduate of Balboa High School. He will major in English at University of California at Berkeley and pursue his passions of journalism and politics. His goal is to write for a major newspaper like the New York Times and perhaps one day run for an elected office.

We are proud and fortunate to have these exceptional students as youth members of San Francisco Federal Credit Union. I am glad we can help lessen the financial pressure that comes with pursuing a higher education, and I have no doubt they will have a successful future. Congratulations!
